Building the Future Home of HUHW
Since returning home, Mr. Wash has been working to share the transformative power of art with his immediate Los Angeles community.
His vision is being realized as the Art By Wash Studio & Community Center, located on Rosecrans Ave. in Compton, CA—an inclusive epicenter of growth and healing through creative expression.
Currently in blueprint stages with help from Morphosis Architects/The NOW Institute, once fully operational, the center will host community art classes and artist residencies, as well as provide assistance, housing, and mental health services to individuals returning from prison.
Anticipated Impact
Upon opening, we expect to:
- Welcome 2,500+ attendees to our inaugural community studio space.
- Welcome our first full cohort of formerly incarcerated artists-in-residence.
- Secure partnerships with local educational spaces to expand access to arts education programming.
- Reach multi-generational audiences nationwide, internationally and across South Central L.A.
